Phone Mirror Download

Set up your phone

One setting on the phone, one tap on Allow, and your Android phone is mirrored on your Mac. It takes about two minutes, once.

You need a Mac with Apple Silicon on macOS 14 or later, an Android phone on Android 5 or newer, and a USB cable for the first connection.

Turn on USB debugging

USB debugging is a switch in Android's settings. It lets a computer you approve see and control the phone, which is how Phone Mirror works. The switch sits in a hidden menu called Developer options, so you unlock that menu first. Pick your phone:

Samsung
  1. Open Settings → About phone → Software information.
  2. Tap Build number seven times. Enter your PIN if asked.
  3. Go back to Settings. Developer options is now at the very bottom.
  4. Turn on USB debugging and tap OK.
Xiaomi, POCO and Redmi
  1. Open Settings → About phone.
  2. Tap OS version seven times (on older phones it is called MIUI version).
  3. Go back to Settings → Additional settings → Developer options.
  4. Turn on USB debugging.
  5. Also turn on USB debugging (Security settings). Without it you can see the phone on your Mac but not click or type. The phone asks for a SIM card and a Mi account before it lets you switch this on.
OnePlus, Oppo and Realme
  1. Open Settings → About device → Version.
  2. Tap Build number seven times. Enter your PIN if asked.
  3. Go back to Settings → Additional settings (on some phones System) → Developer options.
  4. Turn on USB debugging and tap OK.
Google Pixel, Motorola, Nothing and most other phones
  1. Open Settings → About phone.
  2. Tap Build number seven times. Enter your PIN if asked. The phone says “You are now a developer”.
  3. Go back to Settings → System → Developer options.
  4. Turn on USB debugging and tap OK.
Can't find it?

Open Settings and use the search box at the top. Search for “Build number” to unlock Developer options, then search for “USB debugging”. The names are the same on almost every Android phone; only the place in the menus differs.

Plug in the cable and tap Allow

Connect the phone to your Mac with a USB cable and unlock the phone. A question appears on the phone.

Tick Always allow from this computer, then tap Allow. Only ever do this for a computer that is yours.

Click Mirror Phone

Click the phone icon in your Mac's menu bar and choose Mirror Phone. Your phone appears in a window.

The app's own Getting Started window shows these same steps and ticks them off as you go. You can open it from the menu any time.

Lose the cable

Two things to try once the first mirror works.

Go Wireless

With the cable still plugged in, choose Go Wireless (home Wi-Fi) in the menu. When it says it is ready, unplug the cable. Phone and Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

macOS may ask whether Phone Mirror may find devices on your local network. Choose Allow: that is how it reaches the phone.

After the phone restarts, plug the cable in once and choose Go Wireless again.

Pocket mode

Tick Pocket mode in the menu before you click Mirror Phone. The phone's own screen goes dark and it stays awake for you, so it can sit in your pocket or bag.

Do not press the phone's power button while you mirror: that really puts it to sleep. If it happens, right-click in the mirror window to wake it and type your PIN on the Mac.

Send files with Quick Share

This part needs no cable and no setting on the phone.

Switch it on, once

Click the phone icon in your Mac's menu bar and tick Receive with Quick Share. The menu then shows the name your Mac is visible under.

macOS may ask whether Phone Mirror may find devices on your local network. Choose Allow: that is how the phone finds your Mac.

Send from the phone

Open a photo or a file on the phone, tap Share, then Quick Share, and pick your Mac. A small card appears in the corner of the Mac's screen. Click Accept, and the file is saved in your Downloads folder.

Phone and Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi. It also works with a phone you have never plugged in.

Quick fixes

If something goes wrong, it is usually one of these.

The menu says “Phone not found”

Unlock the phone and look for the Allow question on it. Try another cable or another port: some cables only charge and carry no data. Check that USB debugging is still on in Developer options.

I can see the phone but clicks and typing do nothing

On Xiaomi, POCO and Redmi phones, turn on “USB debugging (Security settings)” in Developer options, then stop and start mirroring. On other phones, look in Developer options for a switch that mentions input or permission monitoring.

Wireless stopped working

Android switches wireless debugging off whenever the phone restarts. Plug the cable in once and choose Go Wireless again. Also check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi and not on a guest network.

It stutters over Wi-Fi

Look at the Connection line in the menu. A crowded 2.4 GHz network is the usual cause. Use a 5 GHz network, or Hotspot Mode, which links the Mac to the phone directly. The cable is always the smoothest.

My Mac doesn't show up in Quick Share

Check that Receive with Quick Share is ticked in Phone Mirror's menu, and that phone and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi. A guest network keeps devices apart, so it won't work there. On the Mac, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and make sure Phone Mirror is switched on. If the Mac's firewall is on, allow incoming connections for Phone Mirror when macOS asks.

The mirror window went black

The phone went to sleep, usually because its power button was pressed. Right-click in the mirror window to wake it, then unlock with your PIN from the Mac's keyboard.

There is no sound

Sound needs Android 11 or newer. Tick Audio in the menu, then stop and start mirroring.

None of this helped

Write to contact@phonemirror.in with your phone's model, its Android version, and what the first line of the menu says.

How do I undo all this?

On the phone, open Developer options, tap “Revoke USB debugging authorisations”, and switch USB debugging off. On the Mac, quit Phone Mirror from its menu and drag it from Applications to the Bin.
